THE SOUL TRAVELERS
The Soul Travelers were sewn in Namibia when Donnie (MC), Guido (guitar), and Bernt (pandeiro) went to visit their good friend Shishani Vranckx. It was there that the organic sound of The Soul Travelers began to grow on the shores of the Atlantic, where the group simply had a lot of time and their favorite tools in tow; a guitar, pandeiro, and a song to share with the world. After returning to Amsterdam in January 2013 and performing their first ceremony, the family continued to expand with Mark Nieuwenhuis on trumpet and Koen van den Buuse on bass. More than 300 ceremonies later the vibration is stronger than ever.
The Soul Travelers released their debut album How Does It Feel? in June of 2017. The album finds the band just as they had grown, very naturally, following the songs more than building them. They had performed these songs for almost four years before recording them and you can feel the live nature in their delivery. The inspirations between the different members vary as widely as music itself and maybe that’s why it’s so hard to pin down the sound, but try something like D’Angelo mixed with Nick Drake, Miles Davis, Yasiin Bey, and Fela Kuti playing some Dave Matthews’ songs with a rapper. How Does It Feel? can be found on Bandcamp, all your favorite streaming platforms, and the limited edition, one-time only vinyl available below.
While continuing to rock shows throughout the Netherlands, The Soul Travelers are busy preparing their second album. Whereas the first album tried to bring you out to the park where they rehearse, the second album is coming directly for your speakers with a fullness of sound The Soul Travelers have yet to put forward, but with the same organic growth of the music and the spirit of the ceremony.

Performance Review from 3VOOR12 (translated from Dutch)
“The world in a band, and now in a room. A busy room. Every corner of the room on the Witte Singel is used by twice as many people as in the previous rounds. A soulful intro makes the visitor quiet, but that won't be the case for long. When the second track, the single 'Waiting for a king' is used, the energy and tension builds. The music made by the international company The Soul Travelers – consisting of rapper Donnie Adams from the US, Guido Schotten, Mark Nieuwenhuis and Koen van den Buuse from the Netherlands, Bernt Nellen from Germany and the Belgian/Namibian Shishani – is an extremely energetic, stirring and accessible mix of soul, funk, hip-hop, R&B and something intangible, supplemented with socially, politically and spiritually engaged lyrics. A full, warm sound, the smell of beer, cigarettes, some weed and nuts, and a vibrating staircase and floor. The roof will come off and maybe the audience will go through the floor. This could have easily gone on for much longer, and it did. The last song is announced no less than three times and the band plays for no less than an hour and a half. “How does it feel?” sounds the question from their debut album, which can only be answered after tonight with a “daaaaammmn good”. And this was only day one, of Stukafest Leiden 2018”.” - 3VOOR12
