ROOFTOPS
Rooftops is a hip-hop collective with producer and MC team Louk and Donnie at its base. The guys are joined this time around by friend and fellow Amsterdam expat Arisa Safu, a singer raised around the best of live blues and rock in Yokohama and having gone on to carry that tradition in her own way from the UK to Canada, down to LA, and now in Amsterdam.
Vol. 1 hears Louk’s lo-fi, bass-heavy, multi-instrumentalist production create an often hypnotic and harmonic canvas for Donnie’s poetic, deliberate and buttery flow to blend with Arisa’s sultry and grounded vocals; reminiscent of collaborations with the likes of Mick Jenkins and Bad Bad Not Good or James Blake and RZA, but lighter than both, like Outkast on Elevators or Guru’s Jazzmatazz. The album will be released one single at a time, starting on Nov. 06, with the entire project available on Dec. 04 via Hush Puppy Records.
Vol. 1 marks their very first release with future collaborations and records already in the sky.
