BLITS
Blits brings everything Hip-Hop is at its best. He manages to be the people’s MC and the MCs MC at once. Hailing from the Bijlmer in the Zuidoost (southeast) region of Amsterdam, the city is in his bones and Hip-Hop is his DNA.
He’s been writing for years, making demos and eventually building up to his 2016 debut Onderweg with G-DO of G-DO & Xception on the beats. Blits is known for crafting songs that easily bring you directly into his life, perspective, and character, and that’s exactly what he does on his debut. He and G-DO find a flawless chemistry like they’ve done this before, as every song is locked in and delivers exactly the vibe it intends, which includes several bangers and a nod to the heads from front to back.
In February of 2020 the two followed up with Vonkie, a 14-track excursion into the spark that gets everything grooving. Beyond the bounce, Vonkie finds the two artists with their maturity on full display. Bangers yeah, but this time around the music is more complete and Blits is more complimentary in response. You can get a full idea of the delicate balance in the video for the single Kleine Uurtjes (the small hours). While the song finds both MC and producer venturing into new territory, the video is a stark contrast, but the combination is all Blits (director of the video). Given the ease with which they seem to create, don’t be surprised to see another album from the two.
Blits, forever being true to himself, hasn’t limited his expression to rhymes and his third LP, Juwelen, released on November 10, features a bunch of his own production, with the rest being handled by Donnie, the MC and one gem from G-DO. Juwelen is no doubt about the jewels and, of course, Blits paints vivid pictures of exactly what those jewels are. As you would imagine, the sound on the album is quite different from his first two, with similarities to RZA, Exile, Prince Paul, and DJ Quik. Blits had his hands in all facets of the creation of this album and you can hear how he’s glued to every track. Listen to the exclusive preview of Juwelen below.
